To my future self,

I hope by the time of 2050, the world isn’t in chaos. Currently, in the year 2020, we are already seeing the effects of climate change. We’re watching the world we know disappear. Our continental ice is melting and we’re just watching it disappear. Hurricanes are destroying people’s homes and no one seems to care. People are dying, and no one will change their ways because it’s inconvenient.

Remember, sacrifices are necessary to help future generations to survive. When I think of the year 2050, I can only assume the worst. In my mind, I can imagine the increase in wildfires, carbon emissions, rising oceans, etc. With the way things are currently going, I can see change being done but not soon enough to save ice and snow from disappearing in the Arctic. However, I hope that when it’s 2050 we have learned to sacrifice our comfort to help to save the environment. I really hope that when it’s 2050 that we still have some ice left on Earth. Even if the possibility is slim, there’s still a chance for change. There’s a chance that the United States could have changed its ways and lowered their emissions. I want to believe that our peak in carbon emissions is coming soon. If it doesn’t, then I can only assume the worst.

Currently, the United States doesn’t seem to care about lowering carbon emissions. We are the worst globally when it comes to carbon emissions. This is the price we’re paying for living a comfortable life. We need advocates for change. I want and hope that more people like Greta and AOC will come and advocate to stop climate change. I hope that from 2020 to 2050, you are also an advocate to stop climate change. I hope when you read this that you still remember to continue empathizing with others who are in need of help. Don’t turn your back on those who are uprooted from their lands. Be a kind soul, and help them. Even if something doesn’t affect you, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. Be the change and help others.

More Messages to the Future

I will recycle stuff I found.

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?

I pledge to take the bus.

Dear Students,

I imagine at this point we have dropped our addiction to coal, gas, and oil and that our environment has made a turn for the better with the solar, wind, and other unimagined (at this point) alternative energy choices are in place.

Dear Future Me,

I hope that when we look back on these years,  you’ll see that humanity can be good. That we joined together and fixed it because of we don’t, who will?

My Mini & Lou,

Since I first sat down with these words, a pandemic has erupted. Racial violence is reaching a fever pitch and protests are raging across the nation. It feels like the planet is succumbing to entropy, slipping further into chaos. But I write to you from a time of shifting tides.

Dear my future family,

I will promise to help climate change as much as I can.

I promise to plant more flowers.

Dear Child,

Hope we get to have that snowball fight I always dreamed we’d have.

Dear Tomorrow,

I am so sorry we didn’t realize this predicament sooner.

Dear Future,

I hope that things have cooled down. I hope that people and governments have come together to save our earth. I hope that everyone is able to breath clean air, drink clean water and see the beauty in nature that I do. I promise to do my best to take part in repairing the damage we’ve done so that my hopes may come true.

Dear Future Afnan,

You should make a time machine and come back to past and solve all the problems.
