Dear Tomorrow,

We only have 11 years left until the damage done by climate change is irreversible. It’s not going to change overnight, but if we all work together we can fix this. Here is a simple goal that I promise to achieve: I will find at least one situation in my day everyday to save plastic. Whether that be not using a plastic straw or utensils, or bringing a reusable water bottle with me, or even just picking up other people’s trash. Because this can’t go on forever. Every day is a chance to change the world.

More Messages to the Future

Dear friend,

I will fight for this cause and I will never ever give up because we, the youngsters, are the hope.

Dear Ryan,

I hope that you start doing things that will help the world.

Isabelle minha querida neta!

Nossa vida só tem qualidade se tem natureza ao nosso redor.

Dear grandchild,

There is a place on this planet called the Amazon, and I don’t mean the online shopping site (is that still a thing in your time?).

Dear Nieces, Nephews, & Future Children…

If there is any advice I could give you, it is to believe that although you are one single person in this world, you still have the ability to make a difference in this world.

Dear grand nieces and nephews,

I wish you this security knowing we changed because we love you.

Happy 34th birthday my son.

To laugh at our efforts as they were on such a small scale, too small some would say to make a difference, and then smile when we think about the number families just like ours that did the same thing.

To my daughter,

The climate is quite dynamic these days. Dhaka has dust and warm in this spring.

Dear future child,

We’re presenting at conferences, writing articles, and organizing events with the goal of mobilizing our profession to act on climate, and to help them understand that it will deeply impact our mission to preserve history for future generations.

To my future children,

I am doing everything I can because I want the footprint that I leave behind to be my feet in the sand on a beach and not a carbon one.

Dear Future Self,

It was 2020, the year I realized that life is fragile—not just mine, but the entire planet—through immense consumption, pollution, greediness, ignorance, false bliss. This wasn’t the way I wanted to live my life, so I promise to actively make the change.
