To those who follow us,

“I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.” This is something I often find myself thinking while admiring the varied landscapes of this planet, be it the beaches of southern California or the high peaks in the Rocky Mountains. All of my fondest memories are thanks in part to the earth and the constant wonders she provides. However, I am afraid for you and yours. I am afraid that you will not get to experience the same pleasures that I have. The greatest aspect about the things that you love is being able to preserve and share them with others, and with the way we are treating this planet we call “home” that very well may not be a possibility.

It is not the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. It is not preordained or written in stone that history must progress the way that it has been or will continue to, we alone have the power and ability to change the outcome of our situation. The buildup of Co2 in our atmosphere, the rising temperatures and sea levels, the increasingly erratic and destructive weather. All of this is due to mankind’s own hubris and lack of self control. The damage we are doing to our planet is not insignificant and is not a natural process as some would like to believe, and we alone are the ones responsible for fixing it.

I hope that in your time, you hold an ever greater reverence for our home and all that live alongside us and that you have learned from our mistakes and that you have adapted and made good on the promises and attempts of those of us here and now. Look back on this time and do not be afraid to shout our mistakes loud for all to hear for that is the only way to be certain that it doesn’t happen again. Teach your children, teach your children’s children. Be champions and arbiters for conservation and preservation efforts across the globe, and never think that you are immune from making the same mistakes that we have. The love for this earth is universal and immutable, and I would that you take more care of her than we did.

As for me, I will continue to make certain that I am heard in my message that I will not stand idly by while the places that I love are flooded, burned, and blown away in the cacophony of catastrophe that we have brought upon ourselves. I will do my best to make a difference here and now so that I may share my experiences with you all and so that you will not have to work as hard to clean up the mess that we will inevitably leave behind. We are responsible for the home that you will inhabit and I will make it known that you should not suffer our consequences. This is our home now, and we shall tend it.
