I will do my part to help ensure that there is an Earth left when we are done borrowing it.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to do my part to try and help protect the planet from the ravages of climate change. I will vote for candidates that are pro-environment, and rally against those who are not. I will minimize the use of products and chemicals that harm the environment and exacerbate the situation. As time and money allows, I will make my home more environmentally-friendly, and make my yard more wildlife and planet friendly. I will purchase the most energy-efficient vehicles and appliances that I can afford, and always take the environment into consideration when making purchasing and travel plans.

As the Native American proverb states, “We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.” I will do my part to help ensure that there is an Earth left when we are done borrowing it.

Dear Tomorrow

I promise to educate others TODAY.

Dear Madeline, Ava, and Harper,

What I wish most for you girls is that the care you have shown each other would extend to the big wide world around you.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to be creative – make art!

To my dear children in the year 2050,

I don’t wish to go backwards, but I do wish we would slow down and design our brave new world with more care.

To older Rochelle,

You should’ve reduced your carbon footprint, should be using some source of renewable energy and be a vegetarian by now.

Querida Tainah,

Quero que você beba água pura, coma alimentos sem agrotóxicos e que sua casinha branca com varanda, seja voltada para o leste, onde o sol vai nascer.

Dear Tomorrow,

No plastic straws, no water bottles, shop local, no meat.

To my future self,

It is today on March 6th, 2017 that you have made the decision to make a difference in this world.

Dear Sinchi,

The world is changing and it is happening fast.

Dear Future Self,

More than getting through a global pandemic that has already taken hundreds of thousands of lives around the world, our true feat is even larger: to secure our long-term health and the health of the ecosystems upon which we depend for life. To do that, we have to cut our emissions in half in the next ten years, and continue to reduce it beyond that. And to succeed in that, we need to fundamentally shift the way we do EVERYTHING.

Dear Gabriel,

When the worst consequences of climate change still feel far away today, or the barriers to acting on climate change seem steep today, I do not think about today. I think about you, and your world when you are my age.

People of tomorrow,

Your path will only be as clear tomorrow as we have made it for you today.
