Dear future self,

Hello,

It has been some time now since this has been written. I am speaking to you from your past. I would like to inform you about what we talked about in my global warming class METR112 that I am currently taking as a third-year student. We have been talking about the many arising dangers of climate change and temperature increases. These changes are currently affecting our environment as we speak, but only small tasks are being done to solve this issue.

I would hope that this has changed by the time I get to read this letter 30ish years down the line. One major change I would hope to see have happen is not building communities in areas that are surrounded by water. I would hope that the past has already shown us what happens when we do that. For example, I wonder how New Orleans is and I hope I went to visit that area before the water flooded the area. I also hope I was able to fulfill my dream of going to Venice, Italy before the water takes over the city. If the water has already risen that high I hope the community set the bar high enough to develop an above water city.

I remember I used to love the song by the Jonas Brothers that talked about the year 3000 and having life flourish underwater. But little did I know that one of these days perhaps even in my lifetime I would be able to experience this. I hope by 2050 we are not underwater or if we are there are plans set in place to resolve this situation. Another change that I hope to see from the world is transportation. I hope driving cars lessens and not valued much. I hope that we have refrained from drilling oil in Canada and other areas.

As of right now, I take the train to school every day and I hope that others are still using public transportation to get around too. If I have kids by 2050 I hope that they will understand the negative effects of anthropogenic forcings that we as humans have brought to this environment. There are many more factors that I hope have changed by this time I just hope that I am not the only one who cares enough to see and make a change and that change is implemented all around the world. Let’s all acknowledge the fact that Climate Change is real and address the issues at hand and stop watching and waiting because it will be too late.

Sincerely,

D

Dear Beloved Children,

As time progresses, there is hope that value will be placed on all living organisms, including humans, plants, and animals. Life will move at a slower pace, and being on your own time and moving at your individual pace will be the typical way of life. I consider this way of life good living, and I hope that future generations will live on this earth as it was once intended to live in peace and harmony.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to use a reusable water bottle.

Dear kids of America,

Please eliminate plastic everything
