To our sweet grandson Caleb,

We were blessed with your entrance into this world just a short 5 months ago.  Even though we have participated in so many efforts throughout our lives to protect our world from dangers and threats, it seems that now our whole world is facing a climate change emergency.  Your Grandpa and I will do all we can in this, our last quarter century, to continue to work to protect our beautiful planet so that someday you can enjoy the rivers, the mountains, the snow, the animals and fauna of the world, clean water and clean air, and so many other gifts of life with which we have been blessed.  We want a safe and beautiful world for you, little Caleb, and for your children and grandchildren. We promise to do our part.

Grandma Margie

More Messages to the Future

Dear future love,

A culture of consumption is the reason that my world faces such an ecological crisis, it is both necessary and proper to address the fundamental mindsets that have created such a destructive culture.

Dear fellow human,

May my tomorrow include more attention to these details so that you know that I do care.

Loved One,

That we all have a role to play no matter how small, we all can make a difference.

Dear Tomorrow

I promise to encourage myself and others to recycle more.

Dear Potential Future Kiddo,

To think that my choices of sustainable commuting, eating a plant based diet, and working on our City’s zero waste program likely pale in comparison to the impact of not having a baby is nothing short of devastating.  Does it make me a bad environmentalist to honor my maternal instincts?

To my wide-eyed warrioresses,

Since my two daughters emerged into this world, all of my tomorrows have become more dear.

To My Future Nephews,

I want you to see those corn fields in the north, the beautiful beaches down in Florida, and the stars in the woods at night.

Dear Tomorrow,

The only way to survive it, even if you don’t feel like you’re winning, is to keep your hands on the rope.

I promise to plant more flowers.

Dear Jackson,

I feel deeply that it is my moral obligation as your Mom to protect your future and allow you to inherit a clean and healthy planet.

Dear Future Explorers,

I am often faced with the question: why do I care so much about this pale blue dot that we inhabit?

Dear Future

My hope is for all who live in your time to still know the joy of swimming in the ocean, walking through the woods, and hiking in the mountains.
