To my future self,

It is today on March 6th, 2017 that you have made the decision to make a difference in this world. By 2019, you will be eating at least a 90% plant based diet. You will have reduced you carbon footprint as much as possible and payed for the rest with a voluntary carbon tax. Hopefully the efforts of individuals, the pursuers of a better tomorrow, working together, will have fixed the world. If not, don’t give up, never give up. It is your duty as a citizen of planet Earth and possibly the planet Mars to respect the land you live upon. This is my message to you, my 49 year old self, and any who wish to listen.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?

Dear Tomorrow,

No plastic straws, no water bottles, shop local, no meat.

Dear Great Grandchildren,

If you are reading this, you probably inherited my fascination with ancestry, and the way it uncovers incredible stories of unlikely survival.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will use less fossil fuels.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to sign up for 100% renewable energy.

Dear Jeremy,

We had a lot in common obviously, and our concern for the planet we live on was one of the many things we bonded over.

Dear Peyton and Lucas,

I want you to continue to enjoy bright, beautiful, blue skies, gigantic shady trees, chirping birds, scampering squirrels, sparkling creeks and all that this amazing world has to offer!

Dear Tomorrow,

I’m not allowed to talk about climate change around family; as my mom warned me, “climate change is not something that people think about in Mississippi.” But I’m worried for my family’s future.

Dear Future Grandchild,

We can learn a lot about how to treat others from stories that have been passed from generation to generation.

Para minha querida filha, Vitória,

Consegue compreender que estamos aqui de passagem e que temos por obrigação apenas tomar emprestado, evitado excessos e principalmente agradecer.

Dear Gabriel,

One day ten or twenty years from now, when you look back from the future, you will be able to clearly see the entire path.

Dear Llewyn, beloved grandson …

I can only say that I devoted myself to doing as much as I could to make it better, to provide for a just transition, and to fight those forces that continued to exploit the Eaarth with extractive methods, methods that always also included oppressing some people–because those doing the oppression believed that they were better and deserved more.
