To My Dear Children, Jackson Carlo and Stella Jane,

You are my heart. You are my everything. I am a better person because of you, and I want the world to be a better place for you. I want you to grow up in a safe, clean, and beautiful world. I want you to play carefree, explore without worry, and immerse yourself into the world without reservation. I want to continue to see your eyes sparkle with wonder, your minds alight with amazement, and your smiles gleam at the sheer beauty of our surroundings.

I want the very best for you and I will work hard to ensure that all your dreams come true. I will strive to be an advocate for clean air and clean resources so that you will always have clean air to breathe. I will support our local businesses and farmers so that you understand the importance of sustainable living. I will maintain our vegetable gardens and teach you the value of clean eating. I will continue to reuse and recycle so that you understand the importance of using our resources wisely. I will continue to educate you and all the young children I teach about loving and respecting our environment. I will do everything in my power to make this a better world for you. I promise to always love and protect you.

It is a gift and privilege to be your Mommy. I love you.

Love Always,
Mama

More Messages to the Future

Dear Soren,

In this world that is changing before our eyes, I believe that is our task: standing unflinchingly on the side of love, connecting with others, and forging ahead together.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to reach out to more people to ditch driving and consider using public transportation. I promise to convince Marin markets that sensible policies in density and mixed use planning will further enhance everyone’s quality of life.

To My Friends, Family and Future Grandchildren,

I realize my reflection of the past, current and future state of the environment paints a grim and pessimistic picture, but I feel optimistic in our ability to turn planet Earth’s fate around if we all work together and commit to making a change.

Dear Students,

My act of love will be to use all the power I have, during the rest of my life, to stop climate change.

I promise to plant trees and to turn off the lights.

To my beloved granddaughters, Margaret and Caroline,

Growing up in Germany, I often wondered what my parents had done to oppose the Nazi regime in the 1930’s that led to WWII.  I was so disappointed when I found out how passive they had been. For me, this was formative.

To My Future Children,

I hope by 2050, our society has taken initiative to be producing energy solely through renewable sources.

Dear Tomorrow,

My climate action is to educate youth to create solutions for energy efficiency and conservation opportunities.

I want to tell you a story. Yes, another one.

Mankind has always been able to deal with the greatest challenges it’s faced and this will not be the exception. My message to you is: find that passion and give it your all. ‘Till your legs give out.

To my Maria and her children,

I have to tell you something: it is so hard to keep our life “green” for now, but we still keep trying.

Dear Kids,

My mistake was thinking I needed to give you more to be a good Mom. Recently your aunt asked me what my favorite toy was growing up. I gulped, I didn’t have one- it was the outdoors, sliding down a ravine of leaves with my Dad, skiing and camping. Today is October 12th, 2021 and I am still going to be giving you a lot, it’s going to look a little different – love, experiences, education and a healthy planet.

Dear Lila

So today, my strong and spunky girl, I promise you this: I will stay vigilant and flexible. I will spread the word.
