Dear Peyton and Lucas,

Your bright beautiful blue eyes warm my heart every time I see you! I love the times we get to blow bubbles and swing outside!

I’m worried about those fun outdoor days not being around in the future. Carbon emissions are threatening everything that is good about being outside.

I want you to continue to enjoy bright, beautiful, blue skies, gigantic shady trees, chirping birds, scampering squirrels, sparkling creeks and all that this amazing world has to offer!

So that you can enjoy this, I promise to do what it takes to make a difference and make things better for your future selves. That includes at home, at work, with friends and through my vote. I love you both to the moon and back and I only want the best for you both!

Love – Grandma

To My Fellow Two-Spirits,

Thank you — Thank you — without you, I would not hear butterflies singing, without you, I would not understand black bear humor, or the creativity of jays planning their breakfast, without you, I would not feel flora whispers of long-lived wisdom on the back of my neck while sitting in Padmasana.

I pledge to stop using plastic bags.

Dear future child,

We’re presenting at conferences, writing articles, and organizing events with the goal of mobilizing our profession to act on climate, and to help them understand that it will deeply impact our mission to preserve history for future generations.

Dear Future Grandchildren,

I hope I can look you in the eye and tell you I honestly did everything I could to protect our planet.
