To our future generations,

It is a dangerous time here in 2017. We are at pivotal period in the history of humanity but more importantly the history of our planet. It took us too long to realize our resources are not infinite and that we must change our present for the sake of the future. We have lost sight of the value of nature and made many mistakes, which have led us to our current state. In this crucial time, I want to let you know that I am working for you. While it may seem we do not care about you today based on some of our elected officials, our policies regarding climate change, and our practices as humans, I want you to know that some of us do care and we are working towards a better future for you. We knew about climate change last century and did little about it but I truly believe real change is coming. Many challenges lie ahead on our way to global sustainability but I do not think it is an impossible feat. I personally promise to work for not only you but also the planet I hope to share with you. I refuse to hope for the best and let you inherit our mistakes.

I have had the privilege of exploring some extraordinary places on this planet and it is hard to accept that you might not be able to do the same. When you read this, I hope that you all have the Earth available to you as a safe and healthy home. I hope you experience all of the wonders the Earth has to offer without feeling too heavy of a burden that is sure to be on your shoulders. I promise to do what I can to ensure that happens. In the chance that you read this in time where climate change is still something of debate or we have not worked hard enough to reverse our harm, I urge you to keep fighting. Keep working towards a healthy planet and global sustainability. Until then, I will fight for you and our planet by educating myself and those around me, minimizing my own footprint and speaking out politically.

More Messages to the Future

Dear June and Colin,

I’m sad and angry that collectively more has not been done to this date. And that still with such dire warnings, obvious impacts, those in power are acting far too slowly.

Dear future me,

I am 19 years old, and I am angry.

Dear Chay and Kate,

Don’t ever let anyone tell you your actions don’t matter. Every single thing you do matters. You matter.

Dear Tomorrow and Dearest Lex,

I do believe that the collective power of everyone’s best efforts can curb the worst effects of climate change, and provide you with a more stable and secure future.

Dear future love,

A culture of consumption is the reason that my world faces such an ecological crisis, it is both necessary and proper to address the fundamental mindsets that have created such a destructive culture.

My future husband,

I want us to read this in future time and remember all the senses and views we witnessed.

Dear Tomorrow,

The only way to survive it, even if you don’t feel like you’re winning, is to keep your hands on the rope.

To the future,

Today, I will hope and envision the future I wish to achieve. Then tomorrow, I will have tough conversations, I will call my local representatives, I will continue to fight for this world.

Dear next generation,

Please don’t wait to see the adverse effects instead adopt that river, stream, lake or ocean to make the world a better place.

Dear Future,

We need to work to save our beautiful home.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to drive less and walk more.

Dear Grown up Alton and Dot,

The most important thing in my life is you, which means that as your mom – I am doing my very best to make sure that when you read this letter, Earth is a cleaner and safer place for you and your children.
