Dear my future child,

You must be aware that the world has something called climate change. Climate Change-“A change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.” Although you might not know what that means, all you need to know right now is that it is bad. I will make sure to do my best to prevent it to provide a healthy future for you. I will invest in energy-efficient appliances, reduce water waste in our household, buy better light bulbs, pick up trash, power our home with renewable energy, buy less meat and eat all I buy, drive an efficient vehicle, and anything else that I learn in the future that will help I will do for you. To give you the same opportunities I had in my childhood. To give you the same safety and health. So you can learn and tell the same to your child.

Love, Serena

More Messages to the Future

Dear Malasher and Alex,

My goal was to help you grow into better citizens of our planet; to help you care about our natural world and to make everyday choices that reflect concern for our beautiful earth and our own health as well as encourage you to work together to make changes in our community.

To my daughter and her children,

As a minister, I have preached that we are here to be of service to others and to be care takers of this wonderful planet that God has given us.

To all the people here on earth,

Who knows what the future would look like? or what will happened in the future? No one knows right? That’s why it it’s scary because we don’t know what lies ahead. We couldn’t stop the future but we can always change it.

Dear People Of The Future,

It’s scary, this is the stuff you see in movies about the end of the world.

Dear future loved ones,

As I sit here and write to you, I’d like to share with you something more horrifying than a few boos – our current home, Earth.

Dear Alba:

There is still a lot of beauty and I will do what I can to keep it from slipping away.

I want to tell you a story. Yes, another one.

Mankind has always been able to deal with the greatest challenges it’s faced and this will not be the exception. My message to you is: find that passion and give it your all. ‘Till your legs give out.

Dear Students,

My act of love will be to use all the power I have, during the rest of my life, to stop climate change.

Dear Lucy,

The clock ticks, time passes, and the earth and all of its inhabitants move closer to dangerous boundaries we can dimly discern but cannot see clearly.

Dear Rowan and Anaka,

If we could talk, I would not be able to bear your gaze as you ask: How could you, the people in a position to change the course of climate change, fail to act?

Dear Future,

We need to work to save our beautiful home.

Dear Tomorrow,

My climate promise is to use a refillable bottle, bring my own resusable spoon/form wherever I go, use clean personal care products (without chemicals).
