Dear future generations,

I hope you’ve had the chance to know how beautiful and clever the Earth can be. In 2018 we’re seeing how human development has warped its natural processes and I hope that in your time real change has already begun to stop this. Climate change and pollution is a result of our selfish expansion on the planet but my hope for the future is that growth and prosperity in your mind will no longer rely on inequality and destruction; that the idea of growth and progress to you means increased health, happiness, and sense of community.

Whether or not others have started to enact change I hope that you all will commit yourselves to learning and improving the world, environmentally and socially. I believe that real change is only possible when many perspectives are expressed and integrated into a collective effort or will of all people working unselfishly for the betterment of all, so don’t be afraid to say what you think!

Today, I promise to do my part to protect what we have now by re-using and up-cycling products like clothing, supporting local sustainable farms, and limiting my pollution in order to preserve it for you to know and improve.

More Messages to the Future

Hola Cariño,

Life is not easier being a believer but I would not have picked another path. Thanks to my Faith I found my passion to work to stop climate change for your future. Now go play outside and breathe clean air. Dios te bendiga.

Dear loved ones in the future,

Even if it pains me to imagine how things are back home in Puerto Rico at the moment, I know things will flourish again. The land will heal, but we need to help it.

Dear Me of 2050,

I promise that I will plant more trees in places where there are none.

Dear sons,

I’ve been so busy since 2012 working towards getting a price on carbon.

Querida Emanoely,

Gostaria que você se lembrasse das lições simples que mamãe e papai te ensinou, como cuidar das plantas e dos espaços coletivos.

Dear little one,

In the coming months, we plan to complete a full assessment of our environmental impact online. We hope to discover our biggest areas of resource consumption, learn what we can do better, and create an action plan to improve over the next year.

Dear Corey,

I promise to do all within my power to create a world that’s safe for you and your generation.

Dear Kiya,

Fighting for a system that rewards care for people and planet over profit.

To the People in my Future Life,

Anytime I’m at the crossroads of life, I pray that I, or anyone else in the same position, will keep you in mind, and try to shape a world that’s the best possible for you.

Dear future generations,

Past generations took all the trees, polluted all the water, fished all the fish, and hunted all the animals so that there’s almost nothing nice left.

To Annika, Anders, Stella, Eva, and Mickey,

In writing to you, I realize that I don’t want you to be hard on yourself if you choose to not make this your cause. But it is mine, so I hope that you hold me accountable to some of what I wrote here.

Dear Tristan,

I am doing this to protect you, the food, water, air and biodiversity of a country that I love.
