Dear future children,

I hope both for my sake and for yours that I have taught you to be intentional with your actions and understanding of your impact on the world around you, to respect all living creatures around you and to believe in the inherent value that all things (both living and non-living) hold. Promise that you will continue to live a lifestyle that leaves as little a footprint on the world as possible, and that you will dedicate your lives to helping others do the same. I am making that promise now, and I vow to teach you to do the same.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?

I pledge to take the bus.

Dear child,

The journey of humanity does not take us to Mars like the world now likes to believe. It takes us home to our true self where there is no separate self. Where we are all one. You know all this. Look after yourself my child, look after your brother, your friends, your children, all the animals and the whole planet. Love them like there is no tomorrow.

Dear World,

I vow that I will try to make a difference every day, so that you may enjoy the world as I have.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to be creative – make art!

Dear Peyton and Lucas,

I want you to continue to enjoy bright, beautiful, blue skies, gigantic shady trees, chirping birds, scampering squirrels, sparkling creeks and all that this amazing world has to offer!

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to put in a rain catcher tank.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to shop at more farmer’s markets.

Dear Tomorrow

I hope that environmental issues are a thing of the past.

Dear Evan,

What has most inspired me to act is wanting to be able to look you in the eye and say, “When I became aware of the existential threat of climate change, I did all I could.”  Despite my pessimism, I act in the hope it can make a difference for future generations and all the precious life on our fragile planet.

Dear 2050,

Our planet is crazy. I pledge to be an innovator to make sustainable living real.

Dear Nolan, Patrick, Cullen and Gabriel,

This Mother’s Day I am again thinking of my grandsons future and what I am doing to change the world if only by a small fraction.
