As time progresses, there is hope that value will be placed on all living organisms, including humans, plants, and animals. Life will move at a slower pace, and being on your own time and moving at your individual pace will be the typical way of life. I consider this way of life good living, and I hope that future generations will live on this earth as it was once intended to live in peace and harmony.

Dear Beloved Children,

I write these words as a testament to my dedication and commitment to live well. Today, life has become a challenge, and our future existence on earth appears to be grim. The world has evolved into a place of convenience, which comes along with unhealthy conditions. We are in the midst of a climate crisis: air is polluted, soil contaminated, storms and fires are destroying homes and uprooting people from their communities. People worldwide are falling ill and dying due to the Coronavirus, which has not been able to be contained. Racism remains a problem in America, as evidenced by documented acts of violence against people of color. Protests have erupted, shouting “Black Lives Matter.” The environment, social, political, economic, and health of Americans are at significant risk. Our current President is unqualified to lead the country and refers to the fight for environmental justice as a radical movement, and has no plans to address the climate crisis. However, with all that is conspiring around us, I envision a brighter future for my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and future generations. I take a vow to pursue change so my offspring will thrive and live well on this earth.

I promise to take small steps to preserve the earth and maintain a healthy environment in my daily life. I will refuse to use plastic. I will take measures to conserve energy by utilizing energy-efficient sources. I promise to support local farmers in eating healthily and supporting their small businesses in producing healthy fruits and vegetables. I promise to protect and care for plants, trees, and flowers in my community. I promise to love my neighbor regardless of their race, creed, or color. Most importantly, I will take time to relish in the simple pleasures of life.

From a broader perspective, I will be conscious of my vote for a political leader who understands and acknowledges our country’s current state. The climate, race, and health crisis has harmed our environment. I will use my voice and my writing to ensure that my local politicians create and enforce policies and solutions to work towards a safe, healthy, and harmonious environment. I will be sure to speak and write about these issues to enlighten others and encourage them to fight for equality and justice.

I hope that future generations will live well. Good living is clean, fresh air, stillness, the sound of the insects, animals, and birds talking, and the beauty and healing elements of flowers and trees. The act of giving love, time, empathy, and showing compassion to others.

Sincere blessings of Hope, Love, Happiness, Peace, and Harmony
Mommy

More Messages to the Future

My dearest children Ameilia and Alivia,

I want you to hear the whispers of the seasons changing. The rustling of leaves as they gracefully cascade down from their limbs in the fall, birds singing in spring, and frogs that serenade the summer night.

To my daughters,

In order for you two be happy and healthy, we all need to work hard to prevent climate change.

To my child,

For the pale blue dot we live on, a precious beauty, I try to help.

Fe,

As one push of a button can set a spinner in motion, so too can the actions of one in creating a world that allows you to thrive, to giggle, to love.

To my children,

I am working with 350.org on shutting down the coal and unconventional gas industries in our country because I cannot think of a more direct way to protect you, the food, water and biodiversity we all love and rely on.

Dear… Parents,

Let us teach our children to volunteer and donate.

To my beloved granddaughters, Margaret and Caroline,

Growing up in Germany, I often wondered what my parents had done to oppose the Nazi regime in the 1930’s that led to WWII.  I was so disappointed when I found out how passive they had been. For me, this was formative.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to pick up trash at every beach I visit, use metal straws, take quick showers.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to take my bike everywhere. Taking Golden Gate Transit to SF tonight.

Dear Tom and Leena,

I want you to only see the beauty in this world; there is so much of it and I will protect this beauty for as long as I am here on this Earth.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to become more educated on the global issues that face populations I can’t see

I pledge to take the bus.
