To my future children,

Climate change is a topic of the now in 2017. While it is of debate by many politicians, the average American agrees that climate change is caused by human behavior and going to have devastating impacts on the future. Most likely, you are living in this future that seems so distant now. In an attempt to make this world as pleasant for you as possible, I am doing my part to reduce my carbon footprint now. Some of these actions that I am taking or hoping to take is buying used electric vehicles, reducing my use of one-time plastics, being mindful of my energy use, and working for conservation agencies to protect forests and wildlife for you to enjoy.

It is my hope that you get to see the world for its natural beauty as I have. Every generation of people born sees a different, more impacted and less diverse natural world. The natural world that I see now is different from the natural world that my grandparents saw. The same is true for the world that you see versus what I see now. I am hoping that eventually this cycle ends, before there is no diversity or true pure natural beauty left.

We share this planet with past, present and future generations. What we do now, what has been done in the past all matters to the future. It is my hope that my generation continues to recognize the fact, and act on it, for you.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Rowan and Anaka,

If we could talk, I would not be able to bear your gaze as you ask: How could you, the people in a position to change the course of climate change, fail to act?

Dear Sadie,

You are young and have a rich future ahead of you. I am retired and aiming for a high quality of cultural life and comfort with whatever time remains to me. I do not want to see a world whose elders sacrifice your future for their short-term needs and personal gain. So it’s up to you and me to speak out.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise my next vehicle will be an EV.

To my daughter,

The climate is quite dynamic these days. Dhaka has dust and warm in this spring.

dear me in 2030,

I am smelling burning plastic!

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will take short showers, eat less meat, and buy local more often.

Dear future loved ones,

As I sit here and write to you, I’d like to share with you something more horrifying than a few boos – our current home, Earth.

Dear Tomorrow,

We only have 11 years left until the damage done by climate change is irreversible.

Dear Sinchi,

The world is changing and it is happening fast.

Dear Gabriel,

When the worst consequences of climate change still feel far away today, or the barriers to acting on climate change seem steep today, I do not think about today. I think about you, and your world when you are my age.

Dear Child,

Hope we get to have that snowball fight I always dreamed we’d have.

Dear kids of America,

Please eliminate plastic everything
