To My Future Child,

When I tell you that the things you do matter, I mean it. I tell you this because I believe everyone has an obligation in this world to be a steward with the earth. I have raised you and taught you to respect the natural world, and I too hold myself accountable to this expectation.

I am writing to you in a time where the impacts of climate change are becoming worse everyday. Often times I feel trapped as I struggle to understand how our society has reached the state it is in today. All I know is that I must fight for what is left, because I want you to see the beauty the world has to offer.

Not a day goes by that I do not think about what you will be like. I know that there is hope for a better world. We have the technology and the capability to improve our climate crisis. It is complicated and timely, but that does not mean we should give up.

I cannot wait for the day that I can take you hiking through Montana, teach you to ride a bike, and share endless memories with you. I know that you will be my favorite person to adventure with.

Until we meet, I will continue fighting for you and our planet.

Yours truly,

Mom

Olá minhas Florzinhas!!!

Minhas florzinhas é isso…. vamos a batalha , procurar se informar sobre empresas que são amigas do meio ambiente, tentar banir as empresas que poluem nosso ar, nossos rios.

Dear A and C,

You are growing up in a time of immense change. In the last two years alone, we’ve learned so much about big and important issues including climate change and the systemic racism that runs through our institutions.

Dear Samuel, Willa, and Ben,

To the core of my being, and only through the power of community, I will honor the voices of the youth who are pleading, “Don’t burn my future.” Samuel, Willa, and Ben, your little voices I know, will join that chorus soon enough.

Dear 2050,

Our planet is crazy. I pledge to be an innovator to make sustainable living real.

Dear Anabelle and Bruce,

My desire is for clean air, clean water, rich soil, and healthy nutritious food for you and all children always everywhere.

Dear Jackson,

I feel deeply that it is my moral obligation as your Mom to protect your future and allow you to inherit a clean and healthy planet.

My darling Cassidy,

I know I need to write this to you, and I don’t want to because it makes me so sad. I have been desperately avoiding my feelings about climate change, for many years, but especially and with greater intensity every year since you were born.

To the future generations,

I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

Dear Grown up Alton and Dot,

The most important thing in my life is you, which means that as your mom – I am doing my very best to make sure that when you read this letter, Earth is a cleaner and safer place for you and your children.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise composting in my house and getting an EV for my first car.

To the Future Generations,

I look at my baby niece today. The newest member of our family, just 3 days old. What will be left for her and her grandchildren?

Dear Generations to Be,

If we could all slow down, look around and connect: with each other, the Earth, the sky, the plants and rocks and animals, then maybe we can all remember to treat everyone and everything with respect and live in love.
