To my children and all children,

I hope that we did enough. I hope that you have clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, rich soil to grow your food, trees that your children can climb.

I hope that we did more than enough. I hope that your community is strong, that your gardens overflow into the arms of your neighbours, that your bellies and hearts are full.

Love,

Mum

More Messages to the Future

My Dear Paloma,

I’m going to commit to raising you with your eyes open. Being aware as much as we can, how to better our environment together.

Dear future me,

I am 19 years old, and I am angry.

Dear Nephew,

I am going to start doing better to have a healthier planet for you to live on.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to take my bike everywhere. Taking Golden Gate Transit to SF tonight.

Dear James,

More importantly, what are we doing to better our planet and everyone who lives in it?

Dear Finn and Cy,

I think a lot about what you might be like when you grow up and about what kind of world you will live in.

Dear Daughter,

I want you to be prepared for the world that the generations before you are creating for you. I love you Lucienne, and I will not give up. I will push you and teach you not to give up, either, even if others around you do.

Dear Elliott,

We’re moving into uncertain times, and your dad and I worry. A lot. But you’re keeping us going. You’re pushing us to make better choices and not give up.

Dear Future Sami Lee,

Everyone currently in life laughs and yells save the bees. We were a bee this year for Halloween and Lucy even came up with a great slogan “get with it honey”.

To my precious children

I want clean air, clean energy and muddy feet for you. I want this for all children.

My dearest children Ameilia and Alivia,

I want you to hear the whispers of the seasons changing. The rustling of leaves as they gracefully cascade down from their limbs in the fall, birds singing in spring, and frogs that serenade the summer night.
