Dear Niro,

I hope in your time coming up that you will learn to be a care taker of our precious earth and instill green practices in your daily life beyond recycling. You’re blessed to be part of a community of families to make it part of their mission + part of their lifestyle. My promise to you is to lead by example: to eat locally grown food and eat less meat. This year for gift giving, I promise to buy donations to our local conservation groups and/or experiences. I promise to walk, take public transit and bike every chance I get.

More Messages to the Future

To older Rochelle,

You should’ve reduced your carbon footprint, should be using some source of renewable energy and be a vegetarian by now.

Dear Future Earth,

I promise to promote the growth of clean energy, like solar… For the sake of my grandchildren.

Dear child,

The journey of humanity does not take us to Mars like the world now likes to believe. It takes us home to our true self where there is no separate self. Where we are all one. You know all this. Look after yourself my child, look after your brother, your friends, your children, all the animals and the whole planet. Love them like there is no tomorrow.

Dear Future Generations,

Dear Future Generations,

Dear Daughter,

Even when contemplating huge global-historical issues — especially then — it’s important to stay grounded in the present time and place, the specific here and now, and the minute affairs of everyday interpersonal relations.

Dear Earth,

I will keep the air clean so everyone can see the sunset.

Paz e bem

Vivamos a vida com intensidade, Não nos importando a localidade.

Happy 34th birthday my son.

To laugh at our efforts as they were on such a small scale, too small some would say to make a difference, and then smile when we think about the number families just like ours that did the same thing.

To my future children,

It’s not enough to just recycle. I will sign petitions and call my local representatives. I will also engage in conversations about climate change – even with people with whom I don’t see eye-to-eye.

My dear granddaughter Christy,

My own curiosity and knowing what a caring, aware young woman you are help me override despair.

To my children,

I hope that the fervor that is building continues to build and spread and that the world has made progress to minimize the effects of our past actions.

Dear loved ones in the future,

Even if it pains me to imagine how things are back home in Puerto Rico at the moment, I know things will flourish again. The land will heal, but we need to help it.
