Dear Grandchildren,

Hopefully by the time you read this letter our world is a much better place. Hopefully you are able to grow up in a green world that has been improved over and over by the generations before you. You will have halted the negative effects of climate change and reversed the effects that you can. Hopefully by this time politicians will be working together to invest in the most importance resource there is, the planet. There will be nobody who does not believe in climate change. Hopefully the infrastructure in our cities will have become green and sustainable. Hopefully transportation has been transformed with fuels that do not deplete the ozone layer and add chemicals to our air. Hopefully products will be packaged with recyclable materials and will produce much less waste. Hopefully the world has made advancement on the sustainable development goals, and come up with a set of new ones. Hopefully agriculture and food are spread to all corners of the world and the production of sustainable green energy is at an all time high. But if none of this has happened, hopefully you will continue the battle that those before you have fought so hard to win.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Malasher and Alex,

My goal was to help you grow into better citizens of our planet; to help you care about our natural world and to make everyday choices that reflect concern for our beautiful earth and our own health as well as encourage you to work together to make changes in our community.

To the future generations,

I will stand on the streets, in the courts, and in the schools to encourage awareness and empathy for the earth.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to put in a rain catcher tank.

To my Children,

As you look through your window, I hope you will see a bright future. I hope you dream big, and that you have the courage, drive, and fortitude to do everything you can to achieve those dreams.

To My Future Self,

This lead me to my final project, which focused on reforming the education system to incorporate sustainability classes into the current curriculum.

To my brother’s children,

We wondered about how we might be able to eliminate plastics from our day to day routines, and recycled literally everything. We were amazing, you should have seen us. Now and again though, we wondered if these were the right questions.

Dear Nafia,

I also hope that your previous prayers have been answered. The way you wanted to create green jobs for your fellow city dwellers have been fulfilled already.

Dear You Tomorrow,

What we failed to do, at least early on, was to see how important it was to put those solutions together. To combine into a way forward.

Dear Grandchildren,

So here we are. In 2022 millions of people are suffering from the climate catastrophes, killing pollution and pandemic, not mentioning about poverty, gender and social injustice, racism, wars and dictatorships that can go on as long as bad people in power are allowed to grab our natural resources.

To the future generations,

I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

Dear Ellis,

So, dear heart, I am doing everything I can as the situation worsens.

To My Future Nephews,

I want you to see those corn fields in the north, the beautiful beaches down in Florida, and the stars in the woods at night.
