Dear Future Generations,

At this point in time I look around at the constant neglect and carelessness from the country, community, and campus that I live in. Sometimes I feel so strongly about the necessity to combat climate change that I can feel my heart aching. It’s discouraging to see how many people do not know or do not care how their actions affect the world when it’s all I think about. It’s also discouraging feeling such a strong desire to do something but not knowing where to start or who to go to.

I know that I will become more and more involved for the rest of my life. But right now I pledge to continue trying to live a vegetarian lifestyle and eat as little meat and animal products as possible. I also will continue to try to sponsor a tree in someone’s name instead of buying people presents.

And hopefully by making these little steps I can look back when these letters are published and see the change that has been made. Hopefully by then we still have coral reefs, sharks, and the Amazon rain forest left. Hopefully by then environmental justice will be a part of every decision made at home and in the government.

More Messages to the Future

I promise to help people! Become more aware!

To my unborn children, hey it’s mummy Cris here!

I am witnessing climate change in a way that I do not like, and I do not know how can I stop it.

To earth & its inhabitants,

Its been heavy on my shoulders since I found out about the state of climate woes as a child.

Queridos filhos Heloísa e Henzo,

Tenho muito orgulho da minha função (agente de fiscalização ambiental do Acre) pois é através dela que posso dar um pouco do meu suor, para que no futuro ambos possam ter um lugar melhor para viver.

To what we’ve overcome.

The first step would be in overcoming ourselves. Because whether we end up fading into obscurity, or thriving in prosperity, we will overcome ourselves.

Dear Ellie,

My heart is an ocean of love for all the children facing a life of climate catastrophe.

Dear Beloved Children,

As time progresses, there is hope that value will be placed on all living organisms, including humans, plants, and animals. Life will move at a slower pace, and being on your own time and moving at your individual pace will be the typical way of life. I consider this way of life good living, and I hope that future generations will live on this earth as it was once intended to live in peace and harmony.

Dear Generations to Be,

If we could all slow down, look around and connect: with each other, the Earth, the sky, the plants and rocks and animals, then maybe we can all remember to treat everyone and everything with respect and live in love.

I promise to plant more flowers.

To my grandchildren’s children,

I became an activist to be part of a force to save the natural world and go 100% clean energy.

Dear Hannah, Harper and future baby of Ryan and Colleen Lane,

I will not stop fighting for a more sustainable future, your future.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to only use metal straws and reusable cups.
