Dear Future Children,

I promise to be environmentally aware of the decisions I make today in order to produce a more sustainable, healthy, and clean world for your future.  I am ensuring your future by completing a degree in Environmental Science in order to be well-educated about climate change, pollution, and resource use and how to manage them.  I am searching for small yet impact-full  ways to slow climate change, reduce pollution, and create a green ecofriendly world.  Small steps is the best start, and I hope you will take larger steps than I did.

More Messages to the Future

To the wonderful children of our family – Elayna, Julianna, and James –

There is no issue more important to your future and your friends’ future than stemming climate change.

My dear granddaughter Christy,

My own curiosity and knowing what a caring, aware young woman you are help me override despair.

Dear Madeline, Ava, and Harper,

What I wish most for you girls is that the care you have shown each other would extend to the big wide world around you.

To the future generations,

I hope that you all can enjoy the Smokey Mountains in your lifetime too and that they look how they did back in 2017 when I saw them.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to recycle and compost.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will do my part to help ensure that there is an Earth left when we are done borrowing it.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to ask five of my friends to plant trees.

My future husband,

I want us to read this in future time and remember all the senses and views we witnessed.

To My Future Self,

This lead me to my final project, which focused on reforming the education system to incorporate sustainability classes into the current curriculum.

Dear June and Colin,

I’m sad and angry that collectively more has not been done to this date. And that still with such dire warnings, obvious impacts, those in power are acting far too slowly.

Dear Amara and Uma,

Maybe you heard about bats? Bats, the carriers of this disease that spread among us like wild fire. I love bats. When I was your age today, sitting in the evening on the back terrace of your grandparent’s home in Ibiza, hundreds of bats would play, dance and sing among the trees.

Dear Annie and Eric,

I hope that this life of good things is not just yours to enjoy, but that you also have decided to fight for others to have this life, too.
