Dear Brady,

I love you to the moon and back buddy! I have promised you, and all of the children on this earth, to make this planet a cleaner and safer place with every breath I take and every move I make. I will work everyday to combat climate change for your today, for your tomorrow!

I want you to enjoy the very same wondrous beaches and mountains in Virginia that I grew up exploring and loving. I want you to continue to plant flowers and vegetables in our gardens with the assurance that you are breathing clean air whilst enjoying the outdoors, without the fear of breathing coal ash from our nearby Lamberts Point Coal Terminal.

I will work with legislators to pass legislation that supports America’s Clean Power Plan, ensuring we bring renewable energy like offshore wind and solar to VA. I will implement community gardens and recycling programs to our communities. I will protect you from the dangerous chemicals in our everyday lives! I will make this world a beautiful and safe tomorrow for you Brady.

I love you!
Mama

More Messages to the Future

Dear Annie and Eric,

I hope that this life of good things is not just yours to enjoy, but that you also have decided to fight for others to have this life, too.

Dear Ellis,

So, dear heart, I am doing everything I can as the situation worsens.

Dear June and Colin,

I’m sad and angry that collectively more has not been done to this date. And that still with such dire warnings, obvious impacts, those in power are acting far too slowly.

Dear Tomorrow,

Don’t use plastic straws!

Pour ma famille,

Il faut trouver le 7ème sens et se battre pour des causes justes, comme l´amour et la liberté.

Dear Nieces and Nephews,

I tried.

Dear my future child,

I promise you, I am going to do everything I can to save this planet for you. I won’t let you down, I swear.

Dear Before The Flood team,

We can all be aware and sensitized to the problem, so that we are ready to embrace the solutions that will come our way. In doing so, we can all be part of the solution.

Dear Lalo,

I hope whatever happens, whatever I can’t imagine that you may face, that you will continue to seek light.

We will look back on our time here and ask, “What did I do?”

If we truly live our present moment, maybe you’ll have a future.

Dear Tomorrow,

I’m not allowed to talk about climate change around family; as my mom warned me, “climate change is not something that people think about in Mississippi.” But I’m worried for my family’s future.

To what we’ve overcome.

The first step would be in overcoming ourselves. Because whether we end up fading into obscurity, or thriving in prosperity, we will overcome ourselves.
