Dear Humans of the Future,

I hope you’re doing ok. The way the world is heading right now might mean that in your time there may be several crisis afoot, from extreme weather patterns to depletions of drinking water. You may be living a very minimal waste life, or a very cramped one. This isn’t the future I wish to see for humanity, but it definitely seems that it is unfolding to look that way.

I’m writing this letter today to pledge my efforts towards a better tomorrow by committing to living more sustainably. I think with this comes the decision to opt for things that leave the least to little carbon footprint. This means riding my bike to work, rarely eating meat or animal products, conserving energy and water at home, planting vegetation in my home. I believe the best way to help you of the future though, is to support policy change that enacts regulations to make our world more green. This will involve not only more political involvement on my end, but also a will to spread the word and encourage others to do the same.

My hopes for the world of tomorrow are for a much broader movement for co-existence to be in place. I hope those in power have an empathy towards all walks of life and not just those in their backyard. I hope that the efforts I pledge to living and supporting a more sustainable lifestyle within our world will help humanity in the future. Lastly I hope you’re in a place better than where we are now.

Thank you,

Francisco Arreguin

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to use a reusable water bottle.

To my precious grandchildren, Emma, Maya, Maddie and Will,

With love and a great hope for the future, a future that will be healthy and sustainable for you, my precious grandchildren.

For those who come after us,

This is for the countless children I already see suffering the impact of climate change around the world, and the generations to follow.

To my future children,

I am doing everything I can because I want the footprint that I leave behind to be my feet in the sand on a beach and not a carbon one.

I will recycle stuff I found.

Dear Tomorrow

I promise to reduce my waste production

My dear Honeys,

I think every parent believes that their child’s future is worth protecting – because I know the power of this force in me and what I am willing to do.

Dear Gabriel,

One day ten or twenty years from now, when you look back from the future, you will be able to clearly see the entire path.

To my unborn children, hey it’s mummy Cris here!

I am witnessing climate change in a way that I do not like, and I do not know how can I stop it.

Dear future me,

I am 19 years old, and I am angry.

Happy 34th birthday my son.

To laugh at our efforts as they were on such a small scale, too small some would say to make a difference, and then smile when we think about the number families just like ours that did the same thing.

Dear Gabriel,

When the worst consequences of climate change still feel far away today, or the barriers to acting on climate change seem steep today, I do not think about today. I think about you, and your world when you are my age.
