To the future generation,

The year is 2020 and climate change is happening at an alarming rate. I hope by then we have mitigated enough damage to the point where the Earth can start healing again. I wish that you all will keep up the green efforts and never forget about how we can save our planet. We call this place our home and we need to make sure it never dies. Never forget the efforts that many people have made to make it a better place and be sure to keep up good eco-friendly habits. I am counting on you!

More Messages to the Future

To Annika, Anders, Stella, Eva, and Mickey,

In writing to you, I realize that I don’t want you to be hard on yourself if you choose to not make this your cause. But it is mine, so I hope that you hold me accountable to some of what I wrote here.

Dear Eleanor,

It seems silly to saddle yourself with guilt for something that hasn’t happened yet. I don’t want to do that. As of today, I don’t really feel guilty. I guess I just want to make sure I keep doing more, so that when you read this, and ask what I’ve done since then, I can still feel good about my efforts.

Dear girls,

I love you and I care deeply about your future.

To My Friends, Family and Future Grandchildren,

I realize my reflection of the past, current and future state of the environment paints a grim and pessimistic picture, but I feel optimistic in our ability to turn planet Earth’s fate around if we all work together and commit to making a change.

To my children,

If there is one thing that I taught you it is to be honest in your decisions as they pertain to yourselves and the earth in which you live.

To My Future Child(ren),

The fact that you are reading this means that you would know the answer to a question that has kept me up at night more often than I would like to admit: Did I make you proud?

Dear My Future Child,

I want to sculpt a world for you where you can play outside without gas masks, an ocean to swim in without toxins, and a thick lively forest for you to wander.

Dear my future family,

I will promise to help climate change as much as I can.

I promise to plant more flowers.

Dear old dude Mårten,

I know that the 2019 version of me (today that is) wished and hoped for that I did all within my power to turn the world around without loosing sight on the beauty of being alive.

Dear kids of America,

Please eliminate plastic everything

Dear Students,

My act of love will be to use all the power I have, during the rest of my life, to stop climate change.
