Dearest Summer,

This is your cousin Mackay on October 30, 2017. Tomorrow I will enjoy a night out with my friends for Halloween and hopefully make memories that I will cherish and weave together to remember my senior year of college. Right now you are 10 years old and I can only hope that you have the same opportunities in your life as I am having in mine, and even if that is not the case then to take advantage of every opportunity you possibly can! In case you were not already aware, humans have impacted the environment in many negative ways (and many positive ways too!! {lets not forget}), and I am currently going to school to study environmental science so that I can share my values and beliefs to encourage others to live as sustainably as possible. To me this means recycling, compositing and getting rid of my ‘trash’ in proper ways so that it can be reused or degrade properly in the environment. To eat as clean as possible because while we are here on this earth, our body is our vessel that allows us to achieve our dreams. I think it is a beautiful thing to be passionate and to stay motivated, and the only way to do that is to do what you enjoy doing! You are a spunky girl, with so much energy that you use to sing on the top of your lungs, play with your siblings, run around doing sports and a big brain to use and impress others 😉 I love you for all that you are and my wish is that you get to enjoy your time on this planet and always stay true to yourself and your beliefs. You can achieve the world so let’s make it so others can experience this mysterious and wondrous place to do the same!

Love always,

Your cousin Mackay <3

More Messages to the Future

Dear Rowan and Anaka,

If we could talk, I would not be able to bear your gaze as you ask: How could you, the people in a position to change the course of climate change, fail to act?

Dear Ari and Levi,

Luckily, we have figured out ways to build things without making the air dirty, and we are trying very hard to get more people to switch over to this new way as fast as we can.

Dear Tomorrow

I will get my roommates to be more environmentally friendly.

To what we’ve overcome.

The first step would be in overcoming ourselves. Because whether we end up fading into obscurity, or thriving in prosperity, we will overcome ourselves.

To my daughters,

In order for you two be happy and healthy, we all need to work hard to prevent climate change.

Dear future generations,

It’s never too late to make a difference. Our actions have very real consequences. We can educate ourselves, learn from our mistakes, and take action. We can hold companies like big oil and big plastic accountable for their negative impacts on the environment. We can educate ourselves and others about what causes climate change and what actions we as individuals can take to lower our carbon footprints.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to sign up for 100% renewable energy.

Dear Annie and Eric,

I hope that this life of good things is not just yours to enjoy, but that you also have decided to fight for others to have this life, too.

Dear future generations,

Young people are making a lot of noise and politicians are now listening.

Dear Tomorrow,

My climate promise: community awareness of the climate crisis.

Dear Future Earth,

I promise to promote the growth of clean energy, like solar… For the sake of my grandchildren.

Dear Bella,

I promise that I shall continue to do all that is within my capabilities to leave you a world where there is fairness and justice.
