Dear Tomorrow,

I personally did all I could to make the world a better place for you. I was far from alone in the effort. We’ve had to contend with obstacles like ignorance and greed (that did its best to foster ignorance). The struggle isn’t over and while I hope we’re on the winning side because good is supposed to triumph over evil, at this point I don’t know what you’ll have to face, if indeed there are any human beings or life of any kind, for that matter, left to face anything worthwhile. So: good luck!

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to shop at more farmer’s markets.

Dear future Child or Grandchild,

Climate is undeniably changing but it is not top priority.

To my beloved granddaughters, Margaret and Caroline,

Growing up in Germany, I often wondered what my parents had done to oppose the Nazi regime in the 1930’s that led to WWII.  I was so disappointed when I found out how passive they had been. For me, this was formative.

Dear residents of Bedminster, Bristol UK,

We hope we did enough

Dear Earth,

I will keep the air clean so everyone can see the sunset.

Cari nipoti,

Siamo nel 2017 e vi assicuro che sto facendo tutto il possibile per rendere questo pianeta un posto migliore.

To My Future Children,

Most importantly, I hope you live in a world where science is taken seriously and fact is clearly distinguished from fiction.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to recycle and compost.

Dear Ezmae,

As I write this, I consider giving up as it sometimes seems that all is lost. But then I think of you.

For my children,

If we haven’t done enough and the world you’re living on is apocalyptic or if you’re living on another planet then I’m deeply sorry and just know that I believe in you and I know that you are both strong and smart enough to handle anything.

Dear Nieces, Nephews, & Future Children…

If there is any advice I could give you, it is to believe that although you are one single person in this world, you still have the ability to make a difference in this world.

Dear Leo,

Last week I took you to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline.
