Dear Tiago and Matheus and…

I come to this message with my commitment to take care of the environment. The earth needs help! I know you guys have a good education about that… I hope one day you read this message and go on trying to help the planet. The climate changes and this worry me a lot. In 2050 I don’t know how everything goes! When start thinking about the water problem, I start to ask: Why don’t people worry about the future? Often they don’t care about it.
I’m hoping some day you guys will have a chance to face a new generation with environmental awareness.

I don’t know if I will be alive in 2050… but I want to pass the commitments to you:
– Don’t spend water unnecesserily.
– Recycle the garbage.
– Use less plastic bags, if you need one, use the biodegradable.
– Build a green mind… plant trees.

With simple actions we can prevent climate change. I love you guys and I trust you!!!

With love Mom,
Lorena Foureaux Ribeiro

More Messages to the Future

Dear Maret,

Right now I want to be hopeful. Right now I want to think that we took action to ensure this beautiful future for you.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will encourage everyone to get OUT of their cars and onto public transit.

Dear Kiya,

Fighting for a system that rewards care for people and planet over profit.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to live a car-free lifestyle.

My Mini & Lou,

Since I first sat down with these words, a pandemic has erupted. Racial violence is reaching a fever pitch and protests are raging across the nation. It feels like the planet is succumbing to entropy, slipping further into chaos. But I write to you from a time of shifting tides.

Dear My Future Child,

I want to sculpt a world for you where you can play outside without gas masks, an ocean to swim in without toxins, and a thick lively forest for you to wander.

To my daughter and son,

Surrounded by scientists who shared my fears and visions, I often had a hard time to accept that outside our small community climate change received marginal attention.

Dear Kids,

My mistake was thinking I needed to give you more to be a good Mom. Recently your aunt asked me what my favorite toy was growing up. I gulped, I didn’t have one- it was the outdoors, sliding down a ravine of leaves with my Dad, skiing and camping. Today is October 12th, 2021 and I am still going to be giving you a lot, it’s going to look a little different – love, experiences, education and a healthy planet.

To My Future Children,

Most importantly, I hope you live in a world where science is taken seriously and fact is clearly distinguished from fiction.

Dear Tomorrow

I promise to educate others TODAY.

To My Dear Grandchildren,

Be assured that in the upcoming election, I will cast my vote for your future – for elected officials that recognize climate risks and are willing to promote and vote for legislation that will stop environmental damage and begin to heal our planet.

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?
