Dear someone in the year 2050,

In our current era, global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Ice and snow on rivers and lakes would be breaking up earlier, glaciers may have shrunk, plant and animal ranges would shift, and trees and plants might be flowering sooner. I feel sorry that we are committed to certain impacts of warming such as ocean warming and sea ice melt. I hope that the human being who lives in both current and future periods has made some changes to make this significant climate change lesser through these decades.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will eat vegan, organic, locally grown, and seasonal.

Dear grand nieces and nephews,

I wish you this security knowing we changed because we love you.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to include the trees and animals in all my decisions.

My darlings, Juno & Vaeda,

You ask insightful questions, and together we learn about the mysterious world we inhabit.

My Dear Paloma,

I’m going to commit to raising you with your eyes open. Being aware as much as we can, how to better our environment together.

To the generation after mine,

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.

My Mini & Lou,

Since I first sat down with these words, a pandemic has erupted. Racial violence is reaching a fever pitch and protests are raging across the nation. It feels like the planet is succumbing to entropy, slipping further into chaos. But I write to you from a time of shifting tides.

Dear Evan,

What has most inspired me to act is wanting to be able to look you in the eye and say, “When I became aware of the existential threat of climate change, I did all I could.”  Despite my pessimism, I act in the hope it can make a difference for future generations and all the precious life on our fragile planet.

To My Daughter and Future Grandchildren,

There are so many more things that we can do together to help our Earth from the damage that has been done, and I am so excited to teach you.

Dear Future Earth,

I promise to promote the growth of clean energy, like solar… For the sake of my grandchildren.

Dear Kids,

I know it’s long past time to wake up. You deserve a future in which drought, famine, and war are not all your children ever know; the choices my generation makes now will determine your future.

Dear Me,

Today, I promise to keep my spaces clean and my environment cleaner.
