Dear opadele Kehinde,

I am sorry that we were all too caught up in our own doings to do anything to help our earth. We didn’t know what we had until it was gone. I’m sorry about the polluted oceans, flooding cities and the unbreathable air. I’m done being sorry because an error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it. This future I do not accept it. This generation is where we start to make a difference. We must take care of the earth today because it is our only home. This generation must realize we are not apart from nature but rather a part of nature. To betray nature is to betray us; to save nature is to save us. I plan to start now. Otherwise, there is no way to be certain there will be a future generation to write to. We need to work together and look beyond the issues that divide us, because at the end of the day, if we don’t work together to save our environment, we will all be equally extinct.
Yours sincerely
OPA.K

More Messages to the Future

To my children,

I am working with 350.org on shutting down the coal and unconventional gas industries in our country because I cannot think of a more direct way to protect you, the food, water and biodiversity we all love and rely on.

Dear tomorrow,

The blue sky will no longer be grey, and the bleak clouds will be vibrant.

Cari nipoti,

Siamo nel 2017 e vi assicuro che sto facendo tutto il possibile per rendere questo pianeta un posto migliore.

Oh My Lovely Faizan,

I love you my son. You are waking up now. Hopefully tomorrow, more of us will, too.

Dear Eleanor,

You are so small. So innocent. So beautiful. For you and for everyone else, I will try harder.

Dear Kids,

My mistake was thinking I needed to give you more to be a good Mom. Recently your aunt asked me what my favorite toy was growing up. I gulped, I didn’t have one- it was the outdoors, sliding down a ravine of leaves with my Dad, skiing and camping. Today is October 12th, 2021 and I am still going to be giving you a lot, it’s going to look a little different – love, experiences, education and a healthy planet.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to only use metal straws and reusable cups.

To my children – Chase, Maya and Harlan

I hope that we manage to change the system really soon, while there is still time. So that you are not left with the mess, and trying to fix something that you didn’t cause. I hope we figured out a way to be kind, and caring for others who will suffer more than us. A way to let go of the greed and look at ways we can help others rather than take from them.

Dear Tomorrow,

This is just the beginning. It’s the accrual of little seeds of change that will lead to the tree of revolution.

Dear future me,

My hopes have always been to live in a brighter and better generation, where women are respected around the world, human rights are respected and last but not least where animals and mother nature is cared for by us individuals.

To my daughters,

In order for you two be happy and healthy, we all need to work hard to prevent climate change.

Hey Kiddos!

My hope for you is that all our legislative efforts and care for the environment makes a difference so that we can wipe asthma out of our family.
