Dear My Future Children and Family,

I have just started my first year of college. I am majoring in environmental engineering for you. I am hoping to learn enough to figure out how I can have the biggest impact on climate change possible. This is in hopes that your world will still be green. In hopes that there will be clear seas, and shallow ones at that. I just hope that I can do the most and make a true difference. I hope you get to see snowfall in Connecticut with my parents. I hope that there is still a world to see that is beautiful. I want you to be able to fall in love with nature and the world around you as I have. I’m sorry if we couldn’t be better.

More Messages to the Future

Annalu minha filha amada,

Espero de coração que, no futuro, você possa olhar para trás e se orgulhar muito dos pais que teve.

Dear Future Self,

It was 2020, the year I realized that life is fragile—not just mine, but the entire planet—through immense consumption, pollution, greediness, ignorance, false bliss. This wasn’t the way I wanted to live my life, so I promise to actively make the change.

Dear Tomorrow

I will teach my children about a greener earth.

Dear Son,

I hope with effective action to combat this climate change will we have a better world in the future.

Dear Tripp,

I promise to do my part, supporting federal legislation to protect our earth while starting small with projects at home.

Dear Grandchildren,

I hope we can pass on a better place to live so that my grandchildren and their future children can enjoy the beauty of nature that our wonderful God has given us.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to contact my local officials on passing measures against climate change

To My Future Child(ren),

The fact that you are reading this means that you would know the answer to a question that has kept me up at night more often than I would like to admit: Did I make you proud?

I promise to plant more flowers.

To my Kids,

I wish you all the best and always make sure that you can be proud of yourself and don’t need status-symbols for feeling nice.

Dear Owen and Vivian,

Here’s the biggest secret: I KNOW it will have. We may not realize how, but we have changed the world.

To my darling ones,

And it’s not that I don’t care. I care deeply. For you three, and the families I hope you will have one day; for the many beautiful places I have had the privilege to know, places which take my breath away, that fill my heart with a bursting joy and connectedness to something so much greater than I, places I know may be quite different when you are my age
