Dear Melodee Rose,

Hi Sweetie,

You mean everything to me and I am so blessed, lucky, thankful, and grateful that you are here. I am so sorry that in 2050 that your future at Age 37 will be so much different than my future was. In 2050, I will be 72 years of age and we are facing a climate crisis emergency. I never want to scare you but I also want you to know the facts right here in November 2019. You did not cause this Climate Change Emergency nor Crisis. I will always defend you, share the real, true, valid facts about Climate Change and the Climate Crisis that we are facing. I will always expose you to nature, the waves of Lake Superior, the shores and beaches of the North Shore, and please know you are everything to me in this beautiful but damaging world.

As your MOM, I feel it is my duty right now to share these facts with you. However, I never want to scare you because you are a brilliant, beautiful, active, magical, smart, sassy, and stubborn 6 Year Old. And you, like all the other children and students that I work with on a daily basis, deserve a planet that is healing from the Climate Change Emergency. A planet that is thriving with solar, wind, and water powers. And maybe, someday, soon, fossil fuels and all the plastic and damage of the earth, will be reversed.

Humanity created this massive problem and its up to us as adults and as your beautiful MOM, to solve it. I will do everything in my power to defend you and keep you safe. And the hands of the universe gave me to you. And I do believe that in 2050 and in the years following that, that we can have a planet without the need for fossil fuels and a new, creative economy. And I will continue to fight back against policies that damage Mother Goddess Earth such as hunting, poaching, and fracking. I will continue to be an activist on globalcitizen.org and many other environmental web sites. I will raise you to be an feminist and environmental activist because it is my duty to do so.

You, Melodee Rose and your cousin, deserve a planet that is thriving, sparkling blue and green, and a future of wind, water, and solar energies that bring people together and not apart. Us adults have a lot to do to create a better future for you and the next 7 Generations ahead. I will do my best to keep fighting back because you are my everything….as the song by R.E.M. states…..This is my letter to you, my sweet-heart and magical princess forever……I love you with all my heart to the moon and back…..

LOVE MOM:)

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to only use metal straws and reusable cups.

Dear Future Afnan,

You should make a time machine and come back to past and solve all the problems.

We will look back on our time here and ask, “What did I do?”

If we truly live our present moment, maybe you’ll have a future.

Dear Seamus and Tuva,

So it’s 2050. If the good people are winning the greater struggle, fossil fuels are a shamefully long chapter of the past, and there has been a full scale awakening to the need for only renewable, clean energy.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to ditch all the natural gas and go all electric with my home!

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to try to set up crowd funding for grants to people with realistic proposals to fight climate change.

Dear Lucie,

Lucie, I love you more than you could ever know and I hope that my promises help contribute to a better world for you and inspire you to take action as well as you grow into the amazing adult I know you will be.

Dear X—, Dear A—,

As with our struggles to eliminate police brutality, as with hate crimes, so it is with climate change – there are actually a lot of people out there who care.

Dear Evan,

What has most inspired me to act is wanting to be able to look you in the eye and say, “When I became aware of the existential threat of climate change, I did all I could.”  Despite my pessimism, I act in the hope it can make a difference for future generations and all the precious life on our fragile planet.

Dear future me,

My hopes have always been to live in a brighter and better generation, where women are respected around the world, human rights are respected and last but not least where animals and mother nature is cared for by us individuals.

Dear James,

More importantly, what are we doing to better our planet and everyone who lives in it?

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will encourage everyone to adopt a plant-based diet. Good for our health, the animals and the planet.
