Dear kids,

I hope that you were all born into a world in which you can fall sleep at night with a roof over your head, food in your stomachs, and minds absent of worries. I hope that this world will be very much different than the one I am currently living in, worrying about how the environment is quickly deteriorating around us, people are starving because of overpopulation, and corporate greed has taking precedence over the health and safety of the environment. As I still continue to grow up in my world, my goal is to do things that will hopefully prevent you all from having to live like me in a world of uncertainty for your future generation. I will continue to use more renewable sources of energy, eat less meat, and do more to clean up the environment around me to combat pollution. What I and others around me are doing now will make or break the world that you are currently living in, and I will do everything in my power to ensue you all grow up in a world absent of uncertainty so that you may all pursue your interests and dreams without the clock ticking towards the planet’s current end.

More Messages to the Future

Dear Me of 2050,

I promise that I will plant more trees in places where there are none.

Dear 2050,

Our planet is crazy. I pledge to be an innovator to make sustainable living real.

Dear Daughter,

Even when contemplating huge global-historical issues — especially then — it’s important to stay grounded in the present time and place, the specific here and now, and the minute affairs of everyday interpersonal relations.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will encourage everyone to get OUT of their cars and onto public transit.

Dear Birds,

will continue championing land preservation and the restoration of woodland, prairie and wetland habitats. I will not stop advocating for “bird friendly” legislation to make cities safer for your passage.

Dear Ryan,

I hope that you start doing things that will help the world.

Dear Annie and Eric,

I hope that this life of good things is not just yours to enjoy, but that you also have decided to fight for others to have this life, too.

Dear Tomorrow,

It wasn’t about Him, it was about Us. And this isn’t about Me, it’s about You. And it won’t be about You, it will be about Them.

Dear Tomorrow,

Awareness is key. Learning about this issue can seem like a small effort compared to other actions, but it’s the most important.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to only use metal straws and reusable cups.

Future Self & Ka’iulani,

We promise to reduce the amount of carbon we use on a daily basis.

To My Future Nephews,

I want you to see those corn fields in the north, the beautiful beaches down in Florida, and the stars in the woods at night.
