Dear Future Generations,

I am sorry for all of the problems that we have caused. I apologise for the hot weather that you are living in. The hot weather and the storms are all because cars that run on fuel, the A/C’s and the power stations. I’m sorry that you couldn’t see the polar bears and other animals that we didn’t save. Sorry about the island’s that sank.

From now on I will try my best to stop this. I will tell my mum & dad to get a Hybrid car instead of a car that runs on fuel. I will also turn of all the lights and other electrical sources off when I don’t need them. Also I will tell other people to do the same.

Your sincerely, Azhan Shakeel

More Messages to the Future

Dear grandchild,

There is a place on this planet called the Amazon, and I don’t mean the online shopping site (is that still a thing in your time?).

Dear Future Family,

As I’m sitting here trying to think of the best words to say to you all, I am thinking of one major thing: that I can only hope that you all get to experience the incredible beauty created by our planet.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will bring permaculture designs to my community.

Dear Nephew,

I believe i have truly played my part in raising awareness and practical solutions to climate change.

Dear future me,

I’m doing this work because I see it as the best way to save and improve as many lives as possible. I’m doing it so you, 2050 Ryan, can look at yourself in the mirror. And so you can tell your kids and grandkids someday that you did everything you could.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will use less fossil fuels.

Dear Tomorrow,

This is just the beginning. It’s the accrual of little seeds of change that will lead to the tree of revolution.

dear me in 2030,

I am smelling burning plastic!

To the generation after mine,

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.

My grandchildren,

I promise to do my very best to educate your parents as best I can.

To you, my dear!

In 2050, I will still be fighting against climate change. I feel that it’s not only my duty, but rather my destiny.

To the wonderful children of our family – Elayna, Julianna, and James –

There is no issue more important to your future and your friends’ future than stemming climate change.
