Dear Future Generations,

I hope that your problems aren’t nearly bad as our problems today. I strongly encourage everyone to be educated about the earth, politics and about tragedies going on not just in your city or country but around the world. Be aware about what others are going through and always spread awareness about things you think are right. I hope that your generation has a strong leader who is educated on things like climate change, extinction, etc, because our generation didn’t have someone like that. I hope that your generation isn’t as selfish as mine. Since we are responsible for destroying the earth, we should also be responsible enough to fix it. I would like your generation to carry on for many many many more years but this isn’t possible without change.

More Messages to the Future

I promise to take shorter showers.

To my dearest Gabriel,

What gives me hope is what is yet to come, what you will experience in your lifetime.

Dear Future Self,

It was 2020, the year I realized that life is fragile—not just mine, but the entire planet—through immense consumption, pollution, greediness, ignorance, false bliss. This wasn’t the way I wanted to live my life, so I promise to actively make the change.

Dear future generations,

I pledge to you now that I will work tirelessly and with all my willpower so you don’t have to live in a world where you have to worry about the next storm.

To the future,

Today, I will hope and envision the future I wish to achieve. Then tomorrow, I will have tough conversations, I will call my local representatives, I will continue to fight for this world.

Dear grand nieces and nephews,

I wish you this security knowing we changed because we love you.

Dear Soren,

In this world that is changing before our eyes, I believe that is our task: standing unflinchingly on the side of love, connecting with others, and forging ahead together.

To My Future Self,

This lead me to my final project, which focused on reforming the education system to incorporate sustainability classes into the current curriculum.

Dear Sinchi,

The world is changing and it is happening fast.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will work to restore the wetlands.

To our sweet grandson Caleb,

We want a safe and beautiful world for you, little Caleb, and for your children and grandchildren. We promise to do our part.

Dear children,

Despite all the difficulties, we are from a family whose principles are honesty and love for others, and that’s what I want to share with you.
