Dear future family,

My promise to you is that I will always take into consideration the generations to come who must inevitably endure the consequences of the decisions we are making today in regards to our environment. Although it is 2018 and we have had rapid advancements in technology and science, climate change is still a hotly debated topic that many do not believe in, most notably our current president. I am so passionate and driven to provide you a clean and healthy earth, with a thriving ecosystem that I have devoted my course studies to developing policy that regulates environmental issues. I promise that throughout my years I will lobby and advocate for cleaner methods of energy production so that I can leave you with technological advances in renewable energy. I will also fight for laws that protect and conserve our delicate ecosystems that are being lost due to deforestation, so that you and your grandchildren are able to experience a rainforest and temperate evergreen forests. I cannot project what the future may hold, but I promise that in this lifetime I will be devoted to ensuring you will not be burdened with the effects of climate change due to my generations inability to bring about change.

More Messages to the Future

Annalu minha filha amada,

Espero de coração que, no futuro, você possa olhar para trás e se orgulhar muito dos pais que teve.

My darlings, Juno & Vaeda,

You ask insightful questions, and together we learn about the mysterious world we inhabit.

AMORI MIEI EMMA DOMINGA E MAMMA AURELIE

Mamma e Papà cercano insieme sempre di darti il meglio però anche tu dovrai fare la tua parte nel mondo.

Dear Nolan, Patrick, Cullen and Gabriel,

This Mother’s Day I am again thinking of my grandsons future and what I am doing to change the world if only by a small fraction.

Dear My Future Child,

I want to sculpt a world for you where you can play outside without gas masks, an ocean to swim in without toxins, and a thick lively forest for you to wander.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to turn old shirts into produce bags.

Dear Seamus and Tuva,

So it’s 2050. If the good people are winning the greater struggle, fossil fuels are a shamefully long chapter of the past, and there has been a full scale awakening to the need for only renewable, clean energy.

To what we’ve overcome.

The first step would be in overcoming ourselves. Because whether we end up fading into obscurity, or thriving in prosperity, we will overcome ourselves.

Dear Me,

Today, I promise to keep my spaces clean and my environment cleaner.

Dear Finley,

I wonder if in 2050 we will be looking at a future where fear from the changes at hand has caused people to hate rather than love and provide hope. Perhaps in that world we will we no longer comprehend the biblical texts in a meaningful way. Will climate change be the end of the epoch of God?

To my daughter,

The climate is quite dynamic these days. Dhaka has dust and warm in this spring.

Dear Tomorrow,

The only way to survive it, even if you don’t feel like you’re winning, is to keep your hands on the rope.
