Dear future children,

There is a lot happening in the world right now, and it concerns me for the future. Our new president, Donald Trump, has embodied values and ideas that don’t align with mine. The environment isn’t being taken as priority among the leaders of the world. Climate change and environmental degradation seem to be at an all time high. There are children across the globe that don’t have access to food and clean drinking water, while others live in excess. Forests are being cut down, and many species face extinction due to human action. With all of this, I don’t want you to worry, because despite the odds, I have faith and motivation that the world will become a better place. With all of the individuals who are consumed by selfishness, there are ten more who devote their lives to helping. I hope we can learn to live with the environment instead of against it. I hope that we can learn to support one another. I hope that we can care for the plants and animals that we share our space with. I promise, that wherever I end up, I will try my best to make these changes happen. For the people, the planet, the animals, and of course…for you!

Love,

Mom

More Messages to the Future

Dear Alba:

There is still a lot of beauty and I will do what I can to keep it from slipping away.

To My Children and My Future Grandchildren,

People are an amazing race and, if we have the will, I believe we have the ingenuity and resources to fix the harm we’ve done.

People of tomorrow,

Your path will only be as clear tomorrow as we have made it for you today.

To the wonder,

Dear tomorrow, thank you for letting me ride the wave of wonder that reaches toward you for all generations of all species to come.

Dear Tomorrow,

We want to let others know about how to fight climate crisis.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will do whatever I can to protect and preserve mother Earth for future generations.

Dear Nolan, Patrick, Cullen and Gabriel,

This Mother’s Day I am again thinking of my grandsons future and what I am doing to change the world if only by a small fraction.

Querida Tainah,

Quero que você beba água pura, coma alimentos sem agrotóxicos e que sua casinha branca com varanda, seja voltada para o leste, onde o sol vai nascer.

Dear Evan,

What has most inspired me to act is wanting to be able to look you in the eye and say, “When I became aware of the existential threat of climate change, I did all I could.”  Despite my pessimism, I act in the hope it can make a difference for future generations and all the precious life on our fragile planet.

We will look back on our time here and ask, “What did I do?”

If we truly live our present moment, maybe you’ll have a future.

Dear future love,

A culture of consumption is the reason that my world faces such an ecological crisis, it is both necessary and proper to address the fundamental mindsets that have created such a destructive culture.

Dear Tomorrow

I promise to educate others TODAY.
