To my unborn child,

I grew up in a ranch surrounded by miles and miles of agriculture. My backyard playground was a muddy river which was a result from the agriculture drainage, along with endless trees. I remember on warm sunny days my cousins and I would have messy water balloon fights or just simply wet each other with the water hose. Once we were tired we would have picnics under a huge green tree and count the rows of crops we were surrounded by. This is a memory I deeply cherish, not only because of the company I had, but because I got to experience the beauty of nature first hand, something I wish everyone could have a chance to experience.

Climate change is real and people are currently fogged with confusion about the topic, which makes it scary. We have the means to stop this from occurring, yet we are taking no action. Climate change is no longer a problem we will once face, it is a problem that is occurring right here right now. With all the current burning of fossil fuels, natural gas, and oil, humans are only fueling climate change as opposed to being the solution for this issue.

It is embarrassing how ignorant some humans are when it comes to such a serious topic, so I hope in the future your generation does a better job as humans to unite and protect our planet Earth at all costs. I hope you are part of the solution and inspire your fellow citizens to maintain an environment that is filled with tons of greenery and clean air.

I promise to adjust what I am consuming and how much I am consuming. Aside from adjusting my food intake, I will adjust the way I utilize electricity everyday, and consider talking a walk and/or public transportation to get to my destination. I promise to be part of the solution and look up ways I can help whether its by volunteering, educating others, or even voting for the right candidate that will protect our planet.

More Messages to the Future

To My Future Children,

Most importantly, I hope you live in a world where science is taken seriously and fact is clearly distinguished from fiction.

Dear Seamus and Tuva,

So it’s 2050. If the good people are winning the greater struggle, fossil fuels are a shamefully long chapter of the past, and there has been a full scale awakening to the need for only renewable, clean energy.

I won’t leave my lights on.

Dear Future Sami Lee,

Everyone currently in life laughs and yells save the bees. We were a bee this year for Halloween and Lucy even came up with a great slogan “get with it honey”.

Dear future me,

I’m doing this work because I see it as the best way to save and improve as many lives as possible. I’m doing it so you, 2050 Ryan, can look at yourself in the mirror. And so you can tell your kids and grandkids someday that you did everything you could.

Dear Soren,

In this world that is changing before our eyes, I believe that is our task: standing unflinchingly on the side of love, connecting with others, and forging ahead together.

To my fellow adventurers,

Don’t stop looking for adventures.

Olá minha querida filha Julia,

Muita Coragem e força para você enfrentar todos os desafios que virão, pois são com eles que crescemos.

Dear Spike, Loulou and Yoshua,

I’m going to start a campaign to try to convince everybody in the Netherlands to not eat meat one day a week.

Dear tomorrow,

If there’s one thing young people have learned while quarantining, it’s that Gen Z holds so much power and is capable of a lot more than we think. We’ve created a community that has united us all and started to bring about change for the good of our futures. Now, with the help of Gen Z (and of course, people of all ages), we have the power to save our home, the Earth.

My darling Cassidy,

I know I need to write this to you, and I don’t want to because it makes me so sad. I have been desperately avoiding my feelings about climate change, for many years, but especially and with greater intensity every year since you were born.

Dear little one,

In the coming months, we plan to complete a full assessment of our environmental impact online. We hope to discover our biggest areas of resource consumption, learn what we can do better, and create an action plan to improve over the next year.
