To future generations,

It is hard to comprehend how the world will be like as it continually falls further into the Anthropocene. It is only then; that we will understand the extent of damage that we have caused our planet and how foolish past generations were by not ensuring its security.

I find it hard to focus on my future, knowing that the consequences of climate change will have a greater impact on it than through my own life choices.

It is unfortunate to experience such a time in our history, when there is much at risk and so many chose to ignore the issues. It is demeaning to see the many contributors of these changes continue their habits, despite knowing the damage they are causing for current and future generations. It is painful to watch the world waste its precious resources to meet the never-ending demand from our consumer culture.

I hope that in the future, people will begin to understand the importance of taking care of one another and their planet. I hope that at some point, everyone can serve a purpose that respects the planet and their humanity. Most of all, I hope that the issues we are currently facing can be solved by those of your generation and that you can forgive us for the burden we put on you.

Best regards,

Haden

More Messages to the Future

Dear… Parents,

Let us teach our children to volunteer and donate.

Dear future family and friends,

This is our house.

Dear Tomorrow,

I’m not allowed to talk about climate change around family; as my mom warned me, “climate change is not something that people think about in Mississippi.” But I’m worried for my family’s future.

Dear future generations,

I pledge to you now that I will work tirelessly and with all my willpower so you don’t have to live in a world where you have to worry about the next storm.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to put in a rain catcher tank.

Dear Gabriel,

When the worst consequences of climate change still feel far away today, or the barriers to acting on climate change seem steep today, I do not think about today. I think about you, and your world when you are my age.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise when I start my baking franchise, I will reduce pollution made by it as much as physically possible.

Dear grandkids,

I believe this fusion of ecology and economy backed by the digital technology is our great achievement.

Dear Tomorrow,

We want to let others know about how to fight climate crisis.

Dear Alanna and Valeria,

I promise you to keep trying, to keep educating, to keep pushing our elected officials to act and protect your health now and in the future.

Dear Nephew,

I am going to start doing better to have a healthier planet for you to live on.

Dear Elliot and Alana,

But being truthful, I know we are not yet on the path that will lead to the change that is needed; but it is visible.
