Dear Niece,

Your father and I grew up in a beautiful county and we were blessed to be able to breath fresh and clean air, have beaches close to our house, be surrounded by amazing tall redwood trees, and be able to walk through the enormous forest. This place is called Humboldt and we will forever cherish how it has continue to provide such a unique scenery but a few things have started to change. We have experienced a lot more floods and the area where your auntie lives got flooded and she had to evacuate. The ocean levels have increase more and where there used to be sand is now covered in water. I am currently in college and your dad is back home in Humboldt but whenever I go back, I can see the changes. I can see the changes here in San Jose as well. One day it will be hot and the next day its either cloudy or rainy. This pattern has been going on for a while now and in my opinion, we aren’t doing much to help reduce the climate change occurring.

We are using coal more than ever and other oils to keep our cars running, electricity, energy, and the amount of greenhouse gases is only increasing. All of these factors have greatly impacted our planet and global warming is happening as I write this letter to you. People are taking advantage of the freedom of speech right and utilizing that platform to speak out against global warming. I am a believer in this concept and it astonishes me how people do not believe it’s happening when the impacts of it are happening right in front of us. The weather is constantly changing, ice glaciers are melting, ocean levels are rising, and people still deny it.

Global warming has been talked about several times in the news, at school, in home, etc. It has been discussed that we should start using renewable sources to lessen the impacts done to the planet and hopefully in the future (now ,when you read it) we are using more renewable sources and the effects have decreased. I still want my future kids and family to witness the beauty of not just Humboldt but other places as well that I had the opportunity to see. I have always tried to not litter to keep the environment clean and do my part in helping the world but I know I need to do way more than that and I will try to do so. Hopefully you are just as environmentally conscience or even more so than I and that you do your part in helping our Earth progress.
