Dear my unborn child,

I just want you to know that I tried to make this world for you as beautiful as possible. I did this for you because I want you to be able to enjoy nature like I did as a child. When I was a little girl, my mother would always take me to the beach where I learned to swim in the ocean and enjoy the sound of the waves and the salty feeling on my skin. My grandmother would always take us the local beach in my town. I remember finding a baby turtle on the beach and helping it return safely to the bay. My father always took my siblings and I fishing, and skiing upstate. These memories I will cherish forever, but without nature they would never even exists. This is why I hope you can enjoy the sand between your toes and the ocean breeze, and feel the sunshine. Although there has been destruction, but I hope there is a way humanity can turn it around so you can enjoy the beautiful world you were brought into and part of.

More Messages to the Future

To my Kids,

I wish you all the best and always make sure that you can be proud of yourself and don’t need status-symbols for feeling nice.

Isabelle minha querida neta!

Nossa vida só tem qualidade se tem natureza ao nosso redor.

To My Grandchildren,

It’s my hope that the following will be helpful as you navigate your futures.  These are the confessions of a climate activist:

Dear Owen and Vivian,

Here’s the biggest secret: I KNOW it will have. We may not realize how, but we have changed the world.

Dear Potential Future Kiddo,

To think that my choices of sustainable commuting, eating a plant based diet, and working on our City’s zero waste program likely pale in comparison to the impact of not having a baby is nothing short of devastating.  Does it make me a bad environmentalist to honor my maternal instincts?

Dear Tanuj,

The time has come to question ourselves as citizens about our own actions and the legacy we are leaving behind.

Dear Tomorrow

I promise to encourage myself and others to recycle more.

Querida Emanoely,

Gostaria que você se lembrasse das lições simples que mamãe e papai te ensinou, como cuidar das plantas e dos espaços coletivos.

Dear sons,

I’ve been so busy since 2012 working towards getting a price on carbon.

Dear Corey,

I promise to do all within my power to create a world that’s safe for you and your generation.

Dear Rowan & Tristan,

I promise to do everything I can as a daughter to our great Mother Earth to protect her wildlife and trees.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to ride more and drive less.
