Dear Future Children,

I hope that the world you live in now is better than the world I am living in today. Too many years have gone by that have negatively impacted the planet that is so dear to us. The Earth has provided us with land that us humans do not maintain or protect, air that we do not keep clean, and water that we do not conserve. Although mankind has slowly destroyed the planet over time, I do believe that there is hope for a better tomorrow, a better future for you and the people in your life, and all around the world.

Climate change continues to be the biggest threat to your environment, and I have every last hope that the people taking initiative today will succeed in providing a healthier future for you and your planet. I hope that by the time you are born, we will stop using fossil fuels that are so threatening to the environment, and that we reduce the global atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions. This will guarantee you a better life.

I have worked towards obtaining a more sustainable lifestyle, in which I strive to conserve my resources, cut down my use of transportation, and to reduce my carbon footprint in hopes of giving you the life that you deserve. It is unfair to leave you with a planet that was so badly treated by past generations, including my own. I hope that by reading this letter, you will become aware of just how important it is to be considerate and cautious of your impact on the planet.

It is always important to bring awareness to the realm of sustainability and environmental cautiousness. It is your responsibility to pass on this information to future generations. Last but not least, I wish you, your children, and their children a wonderful life. Do not forget to not only take care of the planet, but also to take care of yourself.

More Messages to the Future

To my Beloved Future Children,

Be fearless – do not be afraid to talk to each other and do not be afraid to fail.

Dear Tomorrow,

And, if this summer has taught me anything, I am content (because I have to be) living in this limbo, this seemingly endless waiting for the opportunity to change, when really the opportunity exists within our very selves all along.

Dear Potential Future Kiddo,

To think that my choices of sustainable commuting, eating a plant based diet, and working on our City’s zero waste program likely pale in comparison to the impact of not having a baby is nothing short of devastating.  Does it make me a bad environmentalist to honor my maternal instincts?

Dear future generations,

My hope for you is that you can have equal experiences with nature that I was able to have with my dad.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise I will use less fossil fuels.

Oh My Lovely Faizan,

I love you my son. You are waking up now. Hopefully tomorrow, more of us will, too.

Dear children,

Despite all the difficulties, we are from a family whose principles are honesty and love for others, and that’s what I want to share with you.

Dear A and C,

You are growing up in a time of immense change. In the last two years alone, we’ve learned so much about big and important issues including climate change and the systemic racism that runs through our institutions.

Dear Chay and Kate,

Don’t ever let anyone tell you your actions don’t matter. Every single thing you do matters. You matter.

dear future people (:

I hope that people are still enjoying the wonders that nature has to offer.

Dear Tomorrow,

I’ll buy only food that I plan to eat before it spoils.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to only use metal straws and reusable cups.
