Dear Anabelle and Bruce,

Protecting fragile ecosystems that sustain life is like caring for children and grandchildren. It requires time, attention, and love.

My desire is for clean air, clean water, rich soil, and healthy nutritious food for you and all children always everywhere. My hope is that choices, actions, decisions, policies, and plans will be based on knowledge, scientific facts, respect for the natural world, and appreciation for the natural order of our beautiful planet.

My dream is that you will someday watch and chase whales as I did, rather than only seeing images of great creatures that became extinct. And although plankton are not great creatures, they also are unique and beautiful; their survival depends on a reduction in ocean acidification, and our ability to survive depends on their survival. Everything is connected.

I am a better person because I love you. I want the world to be a better place for you. Our planet is precious – just like you. I promise to practice choices that value people and the planet over profit. I make this promise to you.
