To those I love,

Thank you for being my friend. You made my life wonderful.

I’m truly doing my very best for you. I always fight for you when people try to take from your future to make themselves feel better today.

I’m not the only one: my parents have really gone above and beyond for you. I don’t know anyone who’s made as much of an effort as they have: they’re heroes.

I’m very angry about how unjust the world is: today’s mistakes will hurt you more than anyone and despite our best efforts some people keep making them; and whatever happens we’re either all going to suffer or we’re all going to be OK.

Please appreciate that people cared about the world you’d live in. Please share that care with every other living being.

More Messages to the Future

Loved One,

That we all have a role to play no matter how small, we all can make a difference.

Dear Gabriel,

When the worst consequences of climate change still feel far away today, or the barriers to acting on climate change seem steep today, I do not think about today. I think about you, and your world when you are my age.

Dear my future family,

I will promise to help climate change as much as I can.

Dear Tripp,

I promise to do my part, supporting federal legislation to protect our earth while starting small with projects at home.

dear future people (:

I hope that people are still enjoying the wonders that nature has to offer.

Dear Gorasia descendants,

I will do all that I can, and hope my fellow inhabitants join my pursuit, to nurture this planet.

Dear Samuel, Willa, and Ben,

To the core of my being, and only through the power of community, I will honor the voices of the youth who are pleading, “Don’t burn my future.” Samuel, Willa, and Ben, your little voices I know, will join that chorus soon enough.

Dear Tomorrow,

This is just the beginning. It’s the accrual of little seeds of change that will lead to the tree of revolution.

Jeremy M,

My promise is to work to protest carbon emissions.

To My Grandchildren,

It’s my hope that the following will be helpful as you navigate your futures.  These are the confessions of a climate activist:

Happy 34th birthday my son.

To laugh at our efforts as they were on such a small scale, too small some would say to make a difference, and then smile when we think about the number families just like ours that did the same thing.

Dear Tomorrow

I will become the change I wish to see in the world.
