To future generations,

I am so sorry that there were so many people in the world that didn’t believe that climate change was real. Unfortunately, you inherited a world very different from the one I was born in. There were plenty of scientists that warned us about what was coming, and many grassroots movements that tried to make changes to stop the world from going past the tipping point. Based on news stories I read today, it appears we have reached that point, and not enough governments and/or people willing to make changes that would back away from the tipping point.

I just want to say that I’m so sorry

More Messages to the Future

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to change the culture of my school.

Dear Grandchildren — August and any others who were born after him

I joined millions of other people who wrote letters and made calls urging our leaders to do more to care for the planet.

Dear Grandchild,

I now feel less overwhelmed and powerless, and I am determined to fight for our planet and your future.

Caro Giovanni,

Dobbiamo aiutare nel conservare il bello che c’è nel nostro pianeta.

Dear Ellie,

My heart is an ocean of love for all the children facing a life of climate catastrophe.

Para minha querida filha, Vitória,

Consegue compreender que estamos aqui de passagem e que temos por obrigação apenas tomar emprestado, evitado excessos e principalmente agradecer.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will do my part to help ensure that there is an Earth left when we are done borrowing it.

Dear Tomorrow,

I will aim to lower my carbon footprint!

To My Fellow Two-Spirits,

Thank you — Thank you — without you, I would not hear butterflies singing, without you, I would not understand black bear humor, or the creativity of jays planning their breakfast, without you, I would not feel flora whispers of long-lived wisdom on the back of my neck while sitting in Padmasana.

Dear Isaiah,

I am grateful for your soul, for your creativity, for your empathy. All these are precious treasures that you have to offer the world. They will help. I thank you for being in this world right now, so that you can offer these gifts at a time of transition.

Dear Abigail and Olivia,

What stories will you tell them about our generation? Will we be heroes or villains?

To the generation after mine,

But when you encounter that resistance–and you will, regularly–know that you must respond just how we have had to these past 50 years. With love, and sternness, and most of all, courage. Because that is what the resistance fears the most. We who came before you promise that we will do the same while we wait for you. Know that you will never be alone.
