Hola mi querido hijo Felipe;

Today, I am here holding you in my arms almost asleep while I write this.  You are my baby, you turned 7 months yesterday. You have the most beautiful eyes in the world, because they reflect your pure soul. When I see your face I just want you to really be happy all your life.

Now, when I think about the things that can happen in the near future due to the damage we have done to our planet, I am terrified to think that things will not work well for you in a few years (or for anyone), that our current unconsciousness will lead us to a state of devastation and destroy everything beautiful on this planet.

The world that God has given us is perfect, the rivers and seas, the forests, the blue sky and the clean air. They are things that they gave us as a great blessing, but for some reason that I do not understand we do not value enough. Instead, we value money, concrete, cars, power. And all this is leading us to disaster.

I really do not know if we can change the course of the planet that apparently leads us to cities disappearing under the sea, extreme droughts, the extinction of animals, hunger, and, of course, wars, especially for the most precious resource that we have: “water”.

I just want you to know that some people like me are aware of what is happening and we would like to be able to do things to change all of this. However, sometimes our small efforts seem useless in the face of the big problem and the decisions made by the leaders of the country and the world. Decisions are immediate and always based on current profitability without valuing the natural resources that we are losing, without realizing that this is what really matters. Since Trump is president of the United States things seem much worse since he has decided to ignore the scientific facts, continues promoting the extraction of oil and coal in the world, and does nothing to prevent global warming. But clearly we can not blame him alone. We are all responsible for what is happening and what will happen.

I hope son you can forgive us for what we have done or even worse for not doing anything 🙁

More Messages to the Future

Dear Lillyana,

I will continue to work to make the Earth a cleaner and safer place for you to grow and explore.

Dear Finn and Cy,

I think a lot about what you might be like when you grow up and about what kind of world you will live in.

To my darling ones,

And it’s not that I don’t care. I care deeply. For you three, and the families I hope you will have one day; for the many beautiful places I have had the privilege to know, places which take my breath away, that fill my heart with a bursting joy and connectedness to something so much greater than I, places I know may be quite different when you are my age

Dear Ellis,

So, dear heart, I am doing everything I can as the situation worsens.

Dear World,

The environment is important – take care of your actions to not destroy it starting from now.

I promise to help people! Become more aware!

Dear Tomorrow,

I have solar and will be getting an electric car next week

dear future people (:

I am writing this message to you guys. When I look outside my window today, I see a beautiful world that others and myself call “home sweet home.” The trees glimmering in warm sunlight, the air stirring a cool breeze, and the water flowing down rivers are parts of our home Mother Earth.

Dear Potential Future Kiddo,

To think that my choices of sustainable commuting, eating a plant based diet, and working on our City’s zero waste program likely pale in comparison to the impact of not having a baby is nothing short of devastating.  Does it make me a bad environmentalist to honor my maternal instincts?

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to never use a plastic straw.

Dear Tomorrow,

I promise to go DEEP GREEN
