Dear future society,

I don’t want to grow old and tell you stories of how amazing polar bears were. I don’t want to tell you stories of how old I was when Florida went underwater, or tell you how I only got to see snow only a few times before it disappeared and how wonderful it was to play in it. I don’t want to grow up and tell my children I never got to see a living coral reef in person because they all died. I don’t want to grow up having to wear masks in the future because we can’t breath in without feeling like we’re getting cancer. I don’t want to grow up and never get to go to California because it’s underwater. I don’t want to grow up because I’m afraid our future society won’t be able to see the amazing things I got to experience. I’m afraid to grow up. I’m afraid for my future children and their friends. I’m afraid for my future grandchildren and their spouse. But most of all, I’m afraid for our world.

More Messages to the Future

dear future people (:

I hope that people are still enjoying the wonders that nature has to offer.

Dear Tomorrow,

The transformation of human consciousness

Dear Tristan,

I am doing this to protect you, the food, water, air and biodiversity of a country that I love.

Dear Nova and Remi,

I wish for you both that another kind of life has been discovered, one of peace, moderation and concern for all life.

Dear Kids,

I know it’s long past time to wake up. You deserve a future in which drought, famine, and war are not all your children ever know; the choices my generation makes now will determine your future.

To my precious children,

As you’ve grown older, I’ve become increasingly aware that protecting you means more than ensuring your short-term safety. It also means ensuring that you’ll have a safe planet to live on.

Dear Future Me: Only open after March 4th, 2050

I don’t regret my past ventures, nor do I believe I will regret my future ventures, but I’ve learned that I’ve needed to manifest these experiences into actions of sustainable development and conservation and protection of our environment.

Dear Chay and Kate,

Don’t ever let anyone tell you your actions don’t matter. Every single thing you do matters. You matter.

Dear Lila

So today, my strong and spunky girl, I promise you this: I will stay vigilant and flexible. I will spread the word.

Dear Tomorrow,

No plastic straws, no water bottles, shop local, no meat.

Dear Alba:

There is still a lot of beauty and I will do what I can to keep it from slipping away.

Dear Tanuj,

The time has come to question ourselves as citizens about our own actions and the legacy we are leaving behind.
