Dear Future People,

I have always loved nature and the outdoors, and have always been interested in environmentalism and sustainability, and thought that as time went on and as science advances, things would eventually get better. But no.

Recently I have been learning a lot more in-depth information about the environment and the human impact on it, and things are not looking great. This past year Donald Trump was elected president while still denying the existence of climate change despite the scientific evidence, and since the election has slashed the funding for the EPA and is going after national parks and any sort of conservation effort. The political climate surrounding environmental issues greatly worries me, but despite these politics many people feel the same way that I do, as shown in the science marches that also took place this year.

Many people are still unaware that climate change is such a huge issue, that the way people live their everyday lives is harming the environment and other people across the world. We are literally losing islands, people’s homes, cultures. For what? Consumerism? A Big Mac? Oil? The problems aren’t even in the distant future, they are happening right now and somehow people are still denying that they exist.

I hope that in the future, for you whoever is reading this, that everyone has figured out that there is a problem, and that everyone is working on fixing it and working for a common goal that benefits everyone. I hope that people are no longer avoiding the problems of climate change but being proactive about a solution. I hope that you still have actual trees, big trees, more than we have now.

I promise to try and protect the natural resources and natural beauty that this world has to offer. I promise to try and make as big of a difference that I can make in bringing awareness to climate change and environmental destruction, and how everyone can make a daily choice to effect these, in a positive or negative way. Hopefully we can keep New York and California too.

Good Luck.

Dear Amara and Uma,

Maybe you heard about bats? Bats, the carriers of this disease that spread among us like wild fire. I love bats. When I was your age today, sitting in the evening on the back terrace of your grandparent’s home in Ibiza, hundreds of bats would play, dance and sing among the trees.

Dear Logan,
